The Science behind Slipping
Understanding the causes of slips and falls can lead to better protection for your business and ultimately your family.
Coefficient of Friction: The ratio of the force that maintains contact between an object and a surface and the frictional force that resists the motion of the object.
Slip resistance is based on the frictional force necessary to keep a shoe heel or crutch tip from slipping on a walking surface under conditions likely to be found on the surface. While the dynamic coefficient of friction during walking varies in complex and non-uniform way, the static coefficient of friction, which can be measured in several ways, provides a close approximation of the slip resistance of a surface. Ground and Floor Surfaces
Slips and falls tend to happen on wet tile floors or in bathtubs, because their feet or shoes lose traction with the floor itself. This loss of traction happens due to a lack of contact being made between the flooring surface and the bare foot or sole of a shoe.
When a person slips and falls, the bare foot or shoe doesn’t make contact with the floor due to a liquid or other substance on top of the floor. Making for very little or no contact with the floor itself. What follows is a very fast domino effect reaction to the lack of friction between the two objects, the bare foot or shoe and the floor. Commonly referred to as hydroplaning and is what occurs during a slip and fall accident.
RESTORE-USA Treader Treatment™ reduces hydroplaning by increasing the number of contact points between the floor and a person’s foot.
RESTORE-USA Treader Treatment™ is a great alternative to floor mats.
RESTORE-USA™ Safety Program (RUSP)
The RESTORE-USA™ Safety Program, is an add-on service provided to businesses that purchase the RESTORE-USA Treader Treatment™ application to their tile floors. We provide customers with regular floor inspections that give our business clients feedback on how they are maintaining their floors and makes recommendations on how it can be made safer. The RUSP requires clients to clean their floors with our Maintenance Cleaning Solutions, as this cleaner has been specifically designed for that purpose. For clients using our Maintenance Cleaning Solution system as their cleaner, a discount will be provided with a regular ordering history, allowing their tile floors to be maintained cost effectively.
